EDUCATION

  • Shop Stewards

    • A shop steward or captain on every show.

    • Training for stewards: Currently, little is offered in the way of showing our stewards what their legal rights are in representing members, or how to collect and file grievances. Developing a robust training program for them will prepare every member to enforce their contract.

    • New Employee Outreach: Stewards will finally know who is a new hire, and will be able to prepare and protect incoming workers better than a welcome email ever could.

  • Training for All

    • Bargaining training for anyone, focusing on new and proven techniques like open bargaining and interest-based bargaining. Open to all.

    • Steward training for anyone who wants to see what being a steward is like.

    • What’s it like to be in office? Currently, officer training is only available after someone is elected. We should offer these classes to anyone who has an interest, without having to commit!

    • Making action an everyday occurrence: You don’t need to wait for contract bargaining to roll around to march on your boss with your coworkers to fix issues at work. Bad scheduling? Abusive expectations? The contract is just a minimum. With an active organizing focus on workplace action, animation workers will become more confident in executing production-by-production change to create real respect for our needs.

  • Learn, Teach, Do!

    • Members will be trained in organizing, be tasked to teach others, and implement their organizing skills to create a teaching loop that reaches everyone.

    • Education that engages: Powerpoint reports leave us glassy-eyed. Report-backs that include members, encourage interactivity and curiosity, and engage members on action items will create General Membership Meetings that have purpose on top of being informative.

    • How did you unionize your studio? How did you win your great contract? Even before animation workers carry cards, they are organizing themselves. TAG members should hear from them! Platform new organizers to teach everyone how to unionize and bargain effectively.
